Hope your day is going well. I have received a few questions lately and thought this may be helpful to some who are starting to build a dollhouse.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: What type of glue do you use?
Answer: It is definitely your preference. I have found that Aleene's Tacky Glue and Gorilla Wood Glue (White) are my preferences. The Gorilla glue appears in my opinion to have a stronger hold, so I use that for areas that require a strong bond. I have found the Gorilla glue does dry lighter than the typical brown colored wood glue, but clean up as you go, because it is a challenge to scrape off any glue bumps that may eek out of your project.

ReplyDeleteQuestion: What type of paint do you use?
Answer: Again, it is your choice. I use what I believe works well with wood and wood products. I also try to use things I have around my home, because I believe in being careful with my expenditures. When I work on projects, I have basic colors I use and then complement with other colors in smaller quantities. An example is: I use a white for ceilings, trims, etc. and happen to have latex interior house paint that I use. When I purchase paints, I go to the hardware store and review the color swatches to make sure I have coordinated color choices. Then I have them mix the colors I want in the small sample containers. Obviously, if you have a large project, then you may need more paint. I also look at returned paints that are discounted to see what the best price is for me.
Another point some of us use: I use a primer like Kilz to paint the initial coating on the wood and wood composition projects. Dollhouse manufacturers like Realgood Toys recommend painting, sanding and painting again for each piece, so I prime, sand and then paint the coat of color I want. That seems to give a stronger color when I do this.
Take a look at my Youtube site tomorrow and Sunday. Special videos to thank MOMs.
